Short or long shaft kicker?

I have an 01 Crestliner Superhawk which now the Serenity and am wondering if I should have a short or long shaft kicker motor? How far should the prop sit under the water? It is a 17' deep v boat. Any thoughts?

You would need a long shaft(20").

The cavitation plate should be level to the bottom of the boat. You could get by with a short shaft but in rollers the prop will leave the water.
