I'm heading to Alaska on Aug 3 for one week of fishing. Homer for Halibut, Kenai River for Reds and Silver, and Seward for Halibut/ Silver Salmon. I'll report when I return.

Good Luck! I wish I was going with you! Let us know how you do when you get home.

Did a trip to Alaska 2 years ago for halibut and salmon... I have an employee out there right now... it's a trip everyone should do at least once in their lives! Incredible fishing, incredible scenery and great people!

Good Luck!

Funny coincidence, my Dad and I are heading up to Alaska on August 3rd too. We are doing a float trip on the Aniak River. We are going for cohos and rainbows mostly, with the bonus char, grayling, pike, and sheefish too. We are really excited about it its a 10 day trip so we'll get a lot of fishing in. Have fun and catch some fish let us all know how you did when you return. Hopefully I will have a good report too. smile.gif

On a boilermakers salary living the standard American dream of a mortgage, wife, and 2.3 kids I seriously doubt I'll make a trip like this, so I'm like really really really really really really jealous of yous guys.

Please post some pictures when you get back.

Hey Arnie, hope you have a great trip. The Kenai reds have been just lousy this year, to the point where they totally closed the fishery a week or so ago. But this morning I read that a big push came in late and the lower river just re-opened with a 3 fish limit, so you should be in fish! No word on silvers yet...glad to see your enjoying your retirement to the fullest! I'm back in Cabo after my blue on Oct. 9-17, wish me luck!

Thanks Terry, Have you ever caught a Blue? I'm heading to PV in January. The wife's decision. I'll probably go to Cabo, Mazatlan or Ixtapa this winter sometime by myself for strictly fishing. What airlines do you fly to Cabo? Do you get any deals? Good Luck and let me know how you do.

My employee just got back today, the silvers are just starting to show up, lots in the sound yet. They limited on their silvers no problem and caught some darn nice halibut to boot.

Boilerguy... a landscaper's salary is nothing to wish for either... but a trip to Alaska can be put together for around $1500 with some careful thought and planning. He was just there and with airfare, food, license, 2 charter trips and 1/4 of an RV rental was in it for about $1600 for 4.5 days fishing. Everyone needs to experience it once...

Good Luck!

You're right on there Labs, with some research and planning an AK trip doesn't have to break the bank. Bend it a little, sure, but sometimes you just have to do that. The important part is having a group (I think a foursome is perfect) of friends that can share the experience and keep costs down. Arnie; nope, still looking for my first blue, but I've really only went down ywice when there was much chance of seeing one. This should be the trip...:) I always fly American to Cabo, and because I run pretty much all my personal and business expenses thru my AAadvantage card I can earn a free trip about every 9 months, sweet deal. In Janruary, you can usually find a cut rate seat on the Worry Free vacations hot deals list; I flew down one year with my son and another time after that for about 200/ticket, regular flights to Cabo are 5-7 hundred....wouldn't leave much for fishing!

I am currently in AK, but i'm up on the north slope at work, not much for fishing up here in the tundra, a few greyling spots, but not many. I was out silver fishing last week and we got into em pretty good, they're saying it may be another near record year, I also tied into about a 40 lb king on a medium action rod and 10 lb test, he almost spooled me before getting in about 8 other lines and i had to cut him loose, if you can avoid it stay away from the combat fishing. Good luck on your trip, I'm going to give it another shot the middle to the end of August, the silvers should be in full steam by then, I'll report back.

Just thinking about the Salmon fishing and the scenery in Alaska is making me a bit envious. I really hope to a trip up there someday, but I just don't see it happening anytime soon frown.gif
