Born2Fish
Has anyone else been on any of these hunts? I applied last year(didn't get drawn) but got another application sent in the mail just today. My preference status is a 1 right now being this would be the second year i will be applying. There are 2 parks to hunt...Baker Park Reserve and Cleary Lake Regional Park. Again has anyone hunted during this program and had good success??
kurtkwe
I have participated twice at Cleary Park. It's minutes from my home and I'm there often using the trails. If you're looking to shoot a bunch of geese this is not the spot. I good day is one or two per person and many days you will be lucky to even fire your gun. I don't think they do much better at Baker. You can not shoot ducks and believe me you will see plenty of those. You hunt with employees of the park and at least at Cleary they are great guys. Most people sign up for the five hunts they are allowed and quit after the first hunt because they were under the impression they would be shooting five geese a day with no problem. All hunts are weekday mornings so you must be flexible. I personally enjoyed the hunts based upon the proximity to my home, beautiful setting on the lake, and the park employees. Abrams
I hunted at Baker 3 or 4 years ago. Basically I set up 4 dozen shells on the 5th fairway (I think it's the one right along lake). We only saw 2 flocks and they went to the guy the next fairway down. It's funny hunting on a golf course I've played in the past. I would try the Cleary spot, it's really close to my house. Born2Fish
And also i wouldnt expect to be picked right off the bat either. In my new application it says it could take several years to be chosen to hunt this special hunt. Like I stated if you are not picked you get a prefernce # and are picked based upon that. But it sounds interesting and just to be out there enjoying the hunt(birds or no birds) is good enough for me.
HUNTINGBAILEY
I got picked about 4 years ago at Baker, everybody else got shooting but I didn't. The best shooting came from the water (sperzum lake) they get special permission fron the dnr to hunt over water. It usually takes a few years to get selected.good luck
