Clarification on the Lucky dog and the 20.

Recommended Posts

After Stewart got black flagged, I understand the whole thing about not losing his lap under race conditions and having to earn it back on his own, but what the announcers were saying about it was confusing. They were saying he had to get his lap back by getting in front of leaders, which he did, then they said he needed a caution to get put on the lead lap. By getting in front of the leader for several laps, which he would be technically on the lead lap, if he had then been passed and put a lap down under race conditions why wouldn't he have been eligable for the Lucky dog then. Maybe I misunderstood what the announcers were saying but it sounds like a grey area to me.

Another thing was the 99 held a lap for his incident on pit road or was he just put at the tail end of the longest line?

Because if he got by them and then got passed a straight away later and got the lucky dog, it wouldn't have been a bit different than if he didn't get around Newman at all. NASCAR made it quite clear there would be no lucky dog for him. Unfortunately it was clearly not enough penalty, he should have been held a lap AND forced to start at the tail end of the longest line. Its no penalty if they didn't even prevent him from getting a top ten.

Edwards was held a lap for his penalty.
