125 Mercury Starting Issues

Biggerfish

Question

OK I never did this before, Ask for expert help that is online.

Here is my problem, My boat has a 2001 125 merc 2 stroke and seems to not keep fuel presure? I need to pump the ball before starting every time. confused.gifEven if I only shut it off for 20 minutes the presure is gone. Now when starting it in the morning I need to keep pumping the ball several times with trying to turn it over in between. Now once the otor is running it runs great. cool.gif

Replace the fuel bulb on your fuel line.

There is a check valve inside it to keep flow one way, looks like it its not working and allows gas to run back into tank.

Thanks Valv,

But that was the first thing I did. Seems to be better but still I don't remember having to pump it every time to start the motor, at least not on my 25 hp Yamaha.

Any other sugestions?

You could have a fuel pump issue, but if motor runs fine at full throttle I don't think it's the culprit.

If you have a "quick connect" fuel connector on motor, check that also, they have the same "check valve" the bulb has.
