A question for the walleye pros...

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Well I'm heading up to my favorite lake next week for 5 days of fishing. I've fished bass and panfish up there for 20 years now. 5 years ago I started wading shallow flats at night and casting rapalas. It seems to be a pretty effective tactic for catching smaller sized walleyes. I'm looking to expand my stategy and troll or slip bobber on the breaks. Below is a link the lakemap. I'm sure some of you have probably fished this particular lake and I'm not looking for your specific spots or to start a thread that exploits this body of water. Any general tips or thoughts would be great.

I don't know that you necessarily need to ask a pro. smirk.gif

For slip bobber fishing, I would concentrate on the wind-swept inside turns of main lake points in 6 - 12' of water adjacent to the basin(s) of the lake. For trolling, look to those same areas as for slip bobber fishing, but concentrate either inside the first break or look for suspended fish out over deep water.

Well you guys are all pros in my book. Thanks for the tip. If you look on the lake map (the second set shows it more cleary), theres and underwater point on opposite side of the lake from the inlet. Its just below the main lake sunken island. On calm days I've seen gravel and boulders in about 5 feet of water on that point. I've often thought that trolling a shallow running crankbait over that point at night would probably get some 'eyes. What do you think?
