Soriano talk

Down to Earth

Recommended Posts

I flipped over to ESPN last night during a break in the Twins game last night. Anyways Baseball Tonight was on and they talked about the Twins being a "darkhorse" team who could aquire Soriano in a trade. Seems we went though this last year as well. Maybe this year with the Nationals a deal could be had.

I agree with Walleye. I frequent a few message boards. The theme is the same. Every team that needs hitting would like Soriano. Every team that needs a pitcher wants Willis. Neither of these players will be dealt without giving up something real. Your TOP prospects, not two or three old guys batting .250 and riding the pine. Twins would be foolish to trade your future away. It's not like you aren't hitting with your current line-up.

And with the tear the twins are on right now I honestly don't think they need anyone else....30-7 since june? Best in the major leagues. And now only 3 games back of the fading White Sucks in the wild card race. Previously I had stated trade torii for willis...Now I'm gonna have to go against that and say keep who we have and ride this thing out.

It's fun to dream, but you have to put yourself in the opposing GMs position. The Marlins total payroll is $22 Million last I looked. Why would they want another team's ten million dollar players who aren't performing now? They simply don't. They want the Joe Mauer of 2008 and the Liriano Version 2007, at pre-star salaries. Can you blame them? Otherwise, why would they trade their bird in the hand? If they still have to pay the money in salaries, they might as well keep their star.

No I realize that the Hunter for Willis thing would be a long shot(kinda like the White Sox repeating this year). But after the HORRIBLE game last night...14-0 against the lowly Indians we need SOMETHING after Santana,Liriano, and Radke.

Though I'd like another bat in the lineup I'm starting to lean towards the pitcher as well. We really need a #4 guy we can count on. Come playoffs it won't really matter, but we could really use it for the remainder of the year.

Not sure who all is out there, but did read a report out of Florida that the Marlins probably won't be moving Willis.

Though this is the rumor, the latest update I heard this morning is the Sox will not include McCarthy in a deal. So like last year, when the Rangers where requesting Liriano in a deal, it looks like the Nationals will be keeping Soriano unless their asking price comes down.

the Twins for a big guy like Lee, or Soriano, no way. It goes agst everything that they are about. What they need now that they are close to the deadline and in the hunt for the WC is another lefty outta the bullpen. The hitting will be there. Reyes is not enough.

From FoxSports:

Put Alfonso Soriano on the Twins' roster and their chances to win the wild card and perhaps the AL Central not only rise, but so do their chances of winning the World Series. Pohlad is one of our country's richest men, with Forbes listing his worth at $2.8 billion. Amazingly, his team receives a revenue-sharing check courtesy of big-market clubs including the Mets and Yankees. Nevertheless, the Twins have a bottom-third payroll nearly identical to that of the Nationals, who are looking to move Soriano. It is time for Pohlad to honor the tremendous work done by Terry Ryan by encouraging his GM to get Soriano, even if it means scrounging up the loose million or two caught in his sofa. One talent evaluator said the Twins have about 15-18 appetizing prospects. ... One admiring GM added, "They are prospect heavy and 95 percent of that is on the pitching side, which trades very well." A short list of those arms includes Scott Baker and Pat Neshek, who are in the majors, and Matt Garza, Glen Perkins, Kevin Slowey and Boof Bonser, all of whom are at Double-A or Triple-A - in other words, the kind of near ready arms Washington wants.

On the list I'd say we need to keep Garza. The others I'd say put a deal together and make the trade.
