What do you do with whitefish??

Recommended Posts

Skeets,
It is most obvious that you can not tell a whitefish from a tullibee. Whitefish are probably one of the best eating fish there is, they are not a greasy mess.
Most people think that they can only be smoked, pickled or canned but they have been miss informed. They are very easy to fillet and have less bones than a northern pike.
The way I like them best is deep fried. After filleting I cut them up in smaller pieces and roll them in pancake flour seasoned with a little salt and pepper and then toss them in the hot grease until golden brown.
Once you try them you will start tossing back all your walleye and crappie.
Try it I guarantee that you will never regret it.

I have tried both tulibee and whitefish and don't really care for them. I have had them smoked and they are OK. smile.gif
I would NEVER trade a whitefish for a crappies or northerns or walleyes. There is no comparison there.

I always thaught smoking them was the only way to eat them. I was shocked how good they are deep fried! Even had some deep fried the other week at Old Country Buffet in St. Cloud. Also baking them is a excellent way after rolling them in bread crumbs! Enjoy, I sure do!
