Tony Holland
Hello just wanting to get some ideas, i was thinking of pre tying up some of my crankbaits with a couple of feet of Vanish 14lb with the rapala knot and a swivel on the other end for easy changes of lures without retying the rapala knot. Then attch the swivel to a snap swivel attached to the main line. My main problem would be how to keep the rapalas tidy and if this would cause problems with the action of the crankbait. Thanks,
BFD
With only a couple feet, then a couple swivels, you are really defeating the purpose of the vanish as the snap-swivels will be so visible. Usually, a crankbait is worked at a such speed that invisibility of the line is not required and mono will be just as productive unless you are using slow suspeding jerk baits. Flouro works great for finess baits, jigging, worming, live bait slip bobbers etc.... Also, the snaps will prevent the crank from diving as deep. The only benefit of a leader of flouro on a crankbait would be 50lb+ flouro as it keeps pike from breaking the line without a big steel leader. If you really want to add a few feet you should tie line to line snell knots (no swivel) then, at the end of the flourocarbon tie a small snap (not snap & swivel) for quick changing baits next, take the split-ring off of the cranks lip as the snap will be better and you dont need both. In-fisherman went into depth about this a year or two ago. Hope that all makes sense.
ripstick
All I use is 6 & 10 lb fireline tied directly to the crank with a wire clip. sinks fast, good for self hook set. and no dive curve.
Team Otter
You will have action problems with what you're describing. Direct tie or use a snap swivel.
Mike Walerak
I typically use this type of setup when I am trolling. I have spent alot of time watching the actions of baits with different types of leaders and actually prefer a 2-3 foot leader of Berkley 10 Lb. Vanish. From what I have been seeing the lighter the line the harder the head of the crank will wobble and the heavier the line the harder the tail will shake. When handlining on rivers I sometimes run 20-25 lb XT with a #11 Floating Rap and a medium sized crosslock snap. I still get enough shake to trigger the eyes. Sometimes deadening the wobble is a good thing.mw
