Stay N Charge

Ears

Question

Has anybody used the stay n charge system with their ice house? I was looking at a sloar panel but it sounds like that might not work that well in the winter with the angle of the sun. Will the stay n charge work if your truck is just idling for a while or do you need to have the rpms up higher? Thanks for any advice.

Ok, this sound like a really nice system but I have one question. If I had more than one unit that I wanted to use this on (boat and a couple of fish houses) would I need more than one system or is the unit mounted on the vehicle and then I would just have to wire the boat and fish houses to accept the plug from the truck?

Thanks,
arbuck

Jim:
My dads house will not allow a easy installation without wires exposed !!

The "trolling motor" plug you mentioned is that compatible with the plug on your harness ?
He's thinking of comming out the front wall from the floor out of his accessory cabinet on the inside of the front wall.
If this plug looks good and is weather proof as well as accomodate your harness plug I think he has a solution..
If so, where can a guy purchase this plug ?

Thanks again!!

Tahoe here is the deal with the origianl harness. You wire the truck and the trailer and if your boat has a bow mount trolling plug and the batteries on the boat are in parrelel you do not need to wire the boat but instead of running the harness all the way to the back of the boat you can measure the wire up to the bow mount plug and cut the harness and get another trollong motor plug and connect it to the statler in charger wire and you can charge the boat batteries from the the bow mounted trolling plug. Now if you do this then you can just look at the trolling motor plug on the boat and go to any were they carry plugs and put the same plug that is in the boat in the ice house and if you have more then one house just do the same thing to the other houses and each truck will be able to work on all houses and all the same boats. I hope this helps

Thanks again Jim,
I wasnt sure if he needed both the female and male plug as we own no boats only fish houses, or if your wire plug end was "universal" to what ever was on bow mounts for trolling motors.
From your description it sounds like we need to replace your plug end as well.

He has a couple RV outlets on his type house and I told him I don't know why he couldnt do the same thing with your system.

Just wire from the batteries under the house up through the floor to the front wall, connect to the outlet mounted on front wall outside and splice a female plug on to your wires if needed.

Tahoe i am sorry i thought you had a boat too. The connecters on my harness ar tough enough to just stick through the wall of the house and work great. If the house has a towing bar on the front the harness can be permanently mounted through the house were ever you want to go through it and the trailer plug would mount so every time you hook the truck up to the house then plug the harness in and go. I guess your dad sounds like a proffesionalist and he will do what he likes, and will probably be better then what i would think about. If i can help in any way just let me know and i will do what ever i can

Jim;
Your help or ideas are greatly appreciated and your right my old man really admires professional efforts.
He has a "extremely" nice house, most people don't realize its a fish house. (lol) I think anyone who had it would not do anything to butcher up anything about it.

He loves the idea of just connecting your "harness" to the truck and plugging in to a front wall receptacle like the trolling motor thing.
I did the same thing with one of our older houses for power.. mounted a RV receptacle on the front wall outside and had a "extension" that plugged into it direct from the hot wire I ran to the trucks rear!!

Hes on his way to GANDER (lol) thinking this "trolling" motor plug is flush mount to put on his wall, but needs to know if your plug end needs to be replaced or if it will be received by the trolling motor type ?

Jim:
Walked next door and looked at neighbors boat. Saw the plug was not going to fit yours so I called him and told him get both !!

Neighbor came over looked over my house set up now and I think you have another "unit" sold just by my asking to look at a trolling motor plug...
Thats (3) now in two days Jim, at what point do I receive commissions LOL

Thanks again

You guys are talking about running this charging system through a trolling motor plug. If i'm not misstaken these usually use 6 ga. wires. Is that big enough wire to carry the amperage to charge 2 or more deep cycle batteries in that short of a time?

This system intrigues me I might have to try one. What is the new "All Charge" system going to cost?

Thanks
arbuck

Arbuck:
I didn't talk with the old man after he went to Gander to get those trolling motor plugs but I don't think the plug is a issue with your question.
The wire on the system is all 10 guage and without ever seeing one of these trolling plugs I'm assuming you can open them up to connect the wires as oppossed to a splice into a (6) guage that might be on the plug.

There are hundreds of these hooked up so it must not be a issue on the plug !!

When charging through the trolling motor plug the wire going in is a good 10awg and will charge through the boat wiring that is probably 6awg and while charging the batteries there is no load on the batteries so the wire size is not a problem. If you were trying to charge the trolling batteries while the motor was running then you would have a problem. I hope this answers your question
