LOW report (kind of)

Scoot

Recommended Posts

I just got back from four days on LOW. The trip was a father/son fishing trip, so we had several 8-10 year olds along on the trip. I fished muskies for a total of three hours and saw seven fish (six of them in 1 1/2 hours). The water is 2 to 2 1/2 feet lower than normal up there and as a result there wasn't a great deal of cabbage in many of the spots I typically good cabbage growth. Every fish I saw was in thicker cabbage in a little deeper water than most of the other cabbage. I didn't move any fish on rocks or points- nothin'. My cousin's son did catch a 35"er off a rocky point though (in the other boat).

I still haven't scraped up a muskie for my nine year old nephew. My goal for the trip was to get him a fish. He had a low 40's inch fish take a snap at his Radd Dog, but it didn't touch the lure and swam off. It'll have to be next time, I guess.

Coolest muskie-related thing on the trip was that I had my first double follow. Never seen that and my nephew got to see it- he was pretty pumped about that.

My next trip up will be in Aug. No kids that trip and we'll do a lot more muskie fishing then.

Hey Scoot -

Cool on the double follow. Kind of wierd isn't it...your brain doesn't quite know what to do with what you're seeing at first. Have had quite a few of them over the years. A couple years ago we had 6 in one day, including a pair of 48 inchers... At one point had two fish going around on the same figure-8. Was waiting for a collision but it never happened... smile.gif

Cheers,

Fished opener with 5 guys for 4 days. We got 14 Muskies and lost at least as many. We fished out of Red Wing in Sabaskong bay. Alot action on the Mepps Maribou and white bucktails and spinnerbaits. We got one on a super top raider and lost a few on jackpots. The fish were very healthy and fast -- well passed spawn, I believe. The big girls appeared to be shallow and we found fish on rocks and weeds. Most of the action in weeds with bigger fish in the submergered and deeper weeds.

Water was way down and weeds were very sparse as mentioned earlier. Water was dirtier than normal but it seemed to improve later in the week.
