Port wing, SS report

Recommended Posts

Went out and hit the south shore of Lake Superior out of Loons Foot on saturday. Was hoping to find some walleyes, but after hitting all our spots and being unsuccessful, we decided to move out to 80-90 ft where we were able to find a couple of active lakers. Picked up one on a stick bait and one on a spoon 50 ft down on a dr. So after hearing that the fishing had finally picked up during the week, it died off.

Sunday we decided to try our luck out of Port Wing. Here we were able to find much more active fish going 10 for 15 with five lakers, 4 kings and a steelhead. Two fish came on x-raps, shallow early. Later we moved out into 150-170 ft of water where we found the rest of our fish 40-60 ft down on an assortment of spoon colors on the down riggers. Beautiful day to be on the water.

Quick, I saw your report. Sounds promising heading that way. Were going to keep working our way down 13. Bark bay next then sand point and then into the islands. With the SS being so bad were trying to learn some new spots and maybe tie into one of Jims big lakers over his way.

Glad you guys found fish... Fish are really relating to certain depths right now... And the depths the fish are hanging in change from area to area.. Today, we found fish from 65 to 80 FOW, where we went 11 for 14 for a half day trip. All lakers, where the biggest fish went about 15lbs. Green spin and glow behind a green and glow opti dodger and a monkey puke type flashback accounted for all the fish. Nothing up higher with the dipsy rigs, fish wanted the balls on the bottom.

Took a friend and his 6 and 9 year old kids out. Was a blast watching them kids catch the fish.. Hopefully my buddy will send the photos and I can post em...

Oh Randy, I seen your other post as well.. About the buoy and jugs... Am not sure what it was in that shallow of water, I do know that a local fisherman runs his trap nets over that way.. He might of had his lead in shallow and that is what your buddy latched onto?

Jim any chance you could send me a pic of the spin in glow set up you run for the big lake? I have little ones i use for the river but there tiny and have 3 hooks for a crawer. I'm always looking for new lures to wash.

It was nice to finally meet you the other day. Hope you enjoyed the tour of the shop. I'm going to pick your brain about trolling around the islands when I get back from the big Nip.

I went out of Loons foot on Sunday..zero, zip, nada for 4 hours of trolling. Tried sppon on one rigger and stickbait on the other down near the bottom from 55fow to 80fow. Plus a deep diving crank and a spoon near the surface. I think I will need to invest in some dodgers and flies. I may also need to drag the boat over to bayfeild it sounds.

Wade, this is the slowest bite ive seen myself out of Loons Foot in the past 10years. I'll proably go out of loons foot this weekend if I can get the Casoloma fellow out on the water grin.gif. I've heard that guys are doing good with flashers and meat. I cant get a fish on a fly or squit this year. But getting some on e-chip flashers with spoons. Just keep banging away its bound to get better.

You start building your house yet?
