submerged motor

Lake Alice

Question

My 1975 25 hp Evinrude spent about 4 minutes completely submerged in Pokegema on saturday. I pulled the plugs and let it dry out overnight and it started the next morning. It seemed ot run fairly well through the day..my question: anything else I need to do to make sure no permanent damage occurs at this point?

You should be ok, it's not like it was submerged in salt water. Motors are made to get wet and only being under for a few minutes should not hurt it at all. It's running, so no worries.

Yep, it's bad, wink.gif time to replace with new 4 stroke grin.gif
Never trust water wink.gif tell wife to arrange budget for new one wink.gif

If this what you wanted to hear.... ??? grin.gifgrin.gif

Anyway, you might want to get a little extra oil into motor for first tank, to lubricate bearings a little more, but probably now is not necessary.

Yep,
Evie's and Johnsons run forever. I have a 10 horse 1963 model on my 12 foot duck boat and a 1980's 35hp.

They will start no matter how cold it is and run like tops. Great motors!

I got this one for $150.00 from a part-time marine mechanic about 5 years ago. I also have a 1980 4 horse with the internal gas tank and weedless prop, the kind you have to spin completely around to go in reverse. Nothing fancy but you're right they do the job.

ST - I have no hour meter

MNR - When the the boat was new it came with 2AMP fuses for the livewells and they kept blowing. The dealer told me that lots of people were having the same problem and to put in 5 AMP fuses. I did that and have not had a problem with blowing fuses or operation.

I plan on pulling the system apart and checking connections this weekend. Any other help would be appreciatied.

Thanks
