I have always thought of fishing for some cats on this river in the fall when I go up bow hunting. Will a guy have much luck this time of year for channels or flatheads fishing south of Leonard along that stretch of the river?

Thanks for any help.

Harvey Lee,

I've heard of people catching flatheads on the Sheyenne, mostly around Lisbon. I don't know of too many people that target them specifically though. I know the ones that I have heard of people catching are in the 2-3 pound range...

There are no Flatheads on the Sheyeenee River or on the Red River. What is commonly misstaken for a baby Flatty is a Stonecat..AKA...Madtom.

Channels rule the Red and all it's tribs. The one possable exception may be the Bois De Sioux River just below the White Rock Dam (ND/SD line)...and that would be one lost Flatty that somehow wondered into Laker Traverse from the Minnisota River drainage....and then got sucked through 2 dams and into the Sioux...YUP...a very rare deal but they have been documented there in the past.

Hope this info may help you guys.
