Marshall County Deer

Recommended Posts

Great for deer and grouse. Lots of public land in the area to hunt as well...I mean lots (you may have to drive a little for the best stuff). It is not the best spot in the state as far as trophy deer go but if that does not matter, you will certainly find plenty of deer to hunt. Good luck and feel free to aks questions if you would like.

I got to hunt elk around Grygla last September, in Eastern Marshall County. I don't know that area nearly as well as jlm, but the area I was hunting was loaded with deer.

I saw one buck a couple times that was a 140-150 class typical, and saw several other very respectable 8-10 pointers.

Some days, I lost count of the deer I would see by 9 am.

Waterfowl in that area is awesome at times. Lots of public places to hunt if you drive a little. There are a few turkeys but there is no season for them that far north...maybe in the future. You can also find sharp tailed grouse in that area which are great fun and challengiing to hunt. Giss is right, there are lots of deer and once in awhile, some big ones. Marshall county is great for trophy deer, however, it is only found in pockets. The area you are talking about is out of those pockets. Mainly due to over harvest of small bucks. The area has great potential however so if you manage your land, you never know! Good luck!

Deer and grouse hunting in general is very good. I've got a place SE of Strathcona. It seems to me there is getting to be more and more pressure on the public land the past 2-3 years. It used to be the place to get away from it all, not the case anymore.

Thanks for all the info!!

If I do indeed buy land I would start some food plot programs and look to also start QDM as best as possible. I always think neighbors would have to see the benefits of letting the little ones go.
