Shot my first duck today!!

At my lunch break I often go to a park 1 block away from my office. At this park there is a drainage pond for the block that has been planted for natural vegitation. It is about the size of an average golf green. 2 hen mallards jump up form the middle(I couldn,t see that they were in there because of the catails)I Pointed my right index finger at the closest one and said pow. I then moved on to the 2nd and put the index finger right on it's bill. I let out the pow and the darn thing dropped like a wet noodle. I looked at my finger wondering what the heck? The duck flew into a chainlink fence. Good news is after a few head shakes the duck was able to fly back into the pond. Never underestimate the power of the finger.

haha thats funny...I sometimes hear about a duck or a goose getting clipped by a power line but have never seen it happen myself--would like to see it someday though.

That story reminds me of a Joke I know.

Zack is in the army and all the equipemnt is handed out in alphebetical order. Zack is the last one for everything. The day they hand out knives they run out just before poor Zack. Zacks commander tells him not to worry. Just take this pen and when the enemy is approaching just make a slashing motion and say "Knife Knife". Zack was a little leary about this but what could he do, they were out of knives? That day in battle Zack is hiding out trying to stay clear of the enemy because he has no knife. All of the sudden the enemy breaks through and advances to the point where Zack could not hide. As they come for him he does what he is told. Knife! Knife! And the enemy falls over dead. Another one comes, KNIFE! KNIFE! he yells...and the enemy falls over dead. So Zack goes on to save the day by killing all the enemy with Knife! Knife!

Next day is the line for guns. Same thing happens, this time his commander gives him a broom stick and tells him to just say Bang Bang! Zack is still a little worried now because afterall the enemy has guns too. Well once again the enemy is advancing and Zack can hide no longer. He pulls out his broomstick and yells BANG BANG! The enemy falls over dead. Now Zack is really starting to like this Bang Bang knife knife stuff. He is running up and down the battle field taking out all the enemy he can find. He sees one particular enemy coming right for him. He pulls up the broom stick and yells BANG BANG... nothing.... BANG BANG! he yells louder... still nothing. Now Zack is getting a little worried. BANG BANG BANG BANG! Nothing. Zack is really nervous now as the enemy is just feet from him. Then he hears the enemy say.... TANK TANK.

That's funny, One of my best days of hunting last season involved a broken gun. I had been having problems with my gun all day so I finally got fed up with it and started taking it apart in the blind to try to fix it. Well. wouldn't you know it, as soon as my gun was apart the ducks started flying. I waited until my buddys were ready and when they jumped so did I. I put my broken gun to my shoulder and pointed at the first duck and pulled my imaginary trigger. To my suprise the duck fell. I did this three more times and every duck I pointed at fell.It was my best shooting of the year. Four ducks with no shots. My buddys think that they shot them but I know better. It was my broken gun and my imaginary bullets. And of course after I had my gun fixed that day the ducks stoped flying.

Good one! Here's one for you. A guy I know that patrolled out of the St. Paul cop shop that was on Rice and Arlington had a bull canvasback drop right at his feet on the sidewalk one October morning many years ago. He picked it up and there was one blood mark on its chest. The amazing thing is, there isn't an area to hunt within 10 miles of there. Talk about trying to fend off death.

That is amazing. I've had heart-shot ducks and geese go a couple hundred yards before dropping, but that's unbelievable!! Tough SOB I guess.
