Leaking Lower Unit

I have a mid 80's 15hp Johnson noticed lower unit leaking gear lube took off prop some fishing line wrapped around shaft, and it looks like it's leaking from that seal Now do you just pry out old seal and install new one?

If you do decide to tackle this yourself, spend an extra $20 and have it tested by a marine mech after you are finished. They simply pressurize the unit to make sure it is air tight.

I'd recommend replacing all the lower seals and o-rings with a lower seal kit. While your at it replace the impeller. Buy a manual or go take one out at your public library.

I'd call around and get a quote before you try to tackle this one. Sometimes the headache of doing it yourself isn't worth the fifty to a hundred dollars you're saving.

The reason I say this, is because Surface is right. They should probably all be changed.
