25hp Mercury short shaft, converting to long shaft question

fishermann222

Question

I have a 25 merc with a short shaft and a jet foot. Well it works great for my inflatable but I am looking at getting a 16ft boat with a V and I will need a longer shaft. What do I need in order to do this? Can I just take the lower unit from a long shaft and transfer it over? Is there a kit I need? I apprecaite any help. Also if anyone has a long shaft off an old 25 merc they are looking to get rid of, let me know.

You can use a lower unit from a longshaft but you'll have to get the extension for your housing, or your motor will be too short (from transom to bottom).

It is a good project, if you can find all the parts cheap it would be great, otherwise I'd suggest finding another motor, it might save you a lot of hassles.....
