Transom savers

Question

What are your opinions on the need for a transom saver? I have a 30 HP tiller motor and will be trailering it up to Minnesota in a few weeks and was wondering if a transom saver is needed on a non hydraulic motor. The manufacturer suggests traveling with the motor down but it seems to me the motor could scrap the pavement in certain situations.

If you do a search for "transom savers" you should find some old info. I posted the same type of question a while ago and the I believe the response was "why not put one on". I use one for my 40hp and I only trailer 30 miles. I figure it can't hurt.

You'd be amazed at how many transomes we've replaced because the motor bouncing cracked it. If your transome is in great condition, it should hold up, but the constand bouncing around loosens everything up which makes it more prone to absorbing water and then when you heve a little rot going on in there, it's definitely a bad thing to have it bouncin around.
