0 hawkeye43
I was told there was nothing to tighten just run it. I have 187,000 on an 02. The only thing I have had go wrong was an injector went out at 112,000, Chevy put all 8 in for nothing, couldn't beat that. It the best truck I have ever had. 0 Sifty
I guess I should go into this a little more. With the miles that I drive I drive our car. My wife drives the truck. She only puts on about 60 miles a week. She said it seems like the engine is getting louder like the lifters are making alot of noise. I have not be able to drive the truck as of late and don't know if it is louder or not. I was talking with a guy at work and he said his father in law had to have his lifters tightened. I checked the oil and the level of that is good. We have only had the truck since Oct. so we have yet to run it in the summer. Thanks fot the input.Sifty
0 LMITOUT
I've never heard of lifters needing to be adjusted on a Duramax. Mine makes a tad more noise in the winter on the coldest of days, but other than that I'm not sure if I've heard anything different when it gets warmer out during the summer. The oil pressure runs a little lower at idle it seems when the motor runs warmer. That may cause some of the rattle?? Since you're pretty new to the Duramax, here's a few tips for you:1) change the fuel filter every 10K2. change the Allison external spin-on filter every 10k (don't forget to take the magnet off the old one and put it on the new one). I do mine about every other oil change. The owner's manual will say different, but believe me it's worth the few extra bucks.
0 Kevin Turner
Most likely your injectors are getting louder. I've got an '01 with 150K and the injectoers have been replaced twice. B4 they failed, they got louder. BTW, I love my Dmax....Here's a great source of info for ya. thedieselplace (dot) com
0 MN Mike
I had an '01 Duramax and it had that ' tick ' that I saw quite a few questions about, it seemed to go away with fresh oil but after a few miles it would come back, sometimes loud sometimes not too bad but it was there. There were a few theroies to why this happened, don't know if they ever came up with a cause.Mike
0 Macgyver55
The Duramax diesel has mechanical tappets which can require periodic adjustment. I'm embarrassed to say I don't remember what the manual calls for for intervals but we did them once a year on an 02 at work. But, that vehicle was in a high mileage situation. Traded it it off in 05 with 486,000. The new 05 has 140,000 already and it hasn't been done yet. Lmitout gave some good tips about fuel filters. Keep them clean and you'll be glad you did.
