Trolling Motor running backwards

TooBusy

Question

I have a brand new Minnkota 70 Powerdrive trolling motor and the prop will only rotate clockwise, which appears to be backwards. I double checked my wiring and everything is wired correctly and I checked the polarity of my connections. Everything seems fine, but the prop is running the wrong direction. One more thing. When it came, the prop shaft was bent so I removed the armature and straightened the shaft. I assembled just like I took it apart. Could this have anything to do with my problem?

Yes I think you put it together with the 2 magnets that are outside the coil backwards. I'm not a pro but I replaced the metal housing on my minnkota and the same thing happened. I don't know how or why it makes it run backwards but I think it has something to do with a magnetic coil. It was a kinda tricky to get them back in and put the motor back on the shaft at the same time but like I said im not a pro.

I did the same thing a couple of years ago if you spin then housing so i would be upside down it will work but if you switch the 2 magnets around insid the motor housing it will fix the problem. Its a crazy thing when you look at it as I remember well.

Nagorski hit the nail on the head. Short cut to not compromise the water integrity would be just to swap the wires around at the top of the shaft. (not saying it is the correct way - just a shortcut)

Thanks for the help! It was a bone-headed mistake on my part. When I reassembled the motor, I had the armature housing upside down. All I had to do was flip it over and it is good to go. Thanks again.
