Lowrance X45 losing bottom contact problem

Murdock

Question

FM.com user LegendElite had this Lowrance X45 sitting idle in his garage, discovered I needed a bow mount sonar, so we tossed it on the bow and mounted the transducer to my Minkota PD. We hit a favorite lake, powered the X45 up and it worked perfectly, but only for about 5 minutes. It then lost contact with the bottom and the sonar depth went to 500+ feet, knowing we were only in about 20 fow. I fumbled thru the menu, everything checked out. Checked the cables from the puck to the sonar, all ok. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what needs to be adjusted?

I don't know of any adjustments off hand.

By chance, are you running another graph in the boat simutaniously?

Years ago I had an X45 and it did the same thing, but after time (or turning it on/off, a real pain) it would work ok again. Through trial and error I guessed that interference from my other graph on the counsel usually caused this to happen. It didn't happen all the time, but the 2 graphs got confused with the different signals and gave that odd reading.

I would bet it is an interferance problem. My 334 does the same thing when i run my x85 in the back of the boat.Wish there was a way to seperate the signals.Burl.

I never thought of interference. I do run a X85 on the counsel. But, would two Lowrance sonars intere with one another? I will test it this weekend by only powering the X45 bow mount to determine if the X85 counsel mount causes the interference.

Yes, unfortunately. More so in depths of 20' or more.

On my newer Lowrance units, I don't experience the bottom loss issues, but more so linear lines on the screen appear. Annoying, and it seems I lose some sensitivity to showing fish on the bottom. I wish Lowrance (or other graphs) would have an "interference rejection" option like today's flashers. smirk.gif

LegendElite, fm.com user id, just directed me to the Lowrance web site. It does state that if the sonar's depth reading jumps to crazy depths, it maybe caused by two sonar units confusing one another. Lowrance states the quick fix is to adjust the ping speed of one of the units. Unfortunately, I don't think my X45 or X85 has an option for ping speed modification. I sent Lowrance an email asking for solution suggestions. Keep the suggestions coming. A guy can learn more on this web site than a week of class room teaching. Thanks everyone!!!
