Leaky Live Well

slick814

Question

Ok.. after some problems with this last year, I finally figured out that one side of my live well leaks/drains, while the other doesn't.

I have a plug I can put in between them, so I have half of my livewell to use, but does anyone have a suggestion as to how to find the leak and fix the problem? I can't figure out where it's leaking....looks fine on the inside, but there's got to be a leak somewhere.

Usually the hose connections are the culprit. Also some hoses might have been full of water during winter season, froze up and cracked it.

Not much of a choice, you have to take everything apart to find leak.

So I'm looking at taking the whole thing out and checking the hoses, then? frown.gif ouch.... good thing I can use half of it until I have the time, especially since the boat is in a boathouse on Vermilion and I'm in the Cities....

Thanks guys

Mid '80's Lund... Mr. Pike, I believe, but I could be wrong. Got the old wooden doors on the livewells. TO be honest, it's not that big of a deal to take it apart some. I need to redo some of the screws, etc. anyway, as they've loosened up some with time and bouncing over waves. TO be honest, if I'm thinking correctly, it's only a matter of 65 or 8 screws, then the whole piece above the livewell comes off. I'm heading up this weekend, so I'll most likely try to get it done then.

Any suggestions on what kind of hose to use on this thing, assuming that it is the hoses? Would you recommend the plastic tubing, or rubber? I'm guessing that the plastic will last longer.
