is it a beep beep beep or is it a continuous siren..if its a beep beep beep its oil sensor if its continuous its over heating...my merc had the continuous last year and it was peeing water which is good..but took it in at years end and had impellar changed and guy who did it said that impeellar needed to be changed it was wore pretty good and this year no problems..but had my oil sensor go off..and on my motor i have a reserve oil tank on my motor and had to start it and open up cap to re bleed the reserve tank as in storage it drained back into my oil tank in boat so needed to get the oil back in my reserve tank and once i did that the beeps stopped..so depending on what sound you have hope this helps out...

If it's the over heat alarm change thr thermostat. For some reason when the lake water temps are colder and the stat goes bad it alarms. It's a pretty easy fix. I've done it twice with my 93, 60 horse merc.
