MOTOR QUESTION?

1DIRTBALL

Question

I have a 1985 25HP Johnson. I just bought a Water Pump and Impeller Repair kit from Lake of the Woods Marine. A great place to do business with, by the way. I've never replaced the water pump or impeller on this motor but I'm not afraid to give it a shot. My question is, are there any pitfalls or special instructions I should be aware of? Knowing any caveats beforehand should make the job go much easier and faster. Right? Of course right! Not taking in to account any actions by Murphy's Law! confused.gif Any help would be greatly appreciated. 1DIRTBALL wink.gif

I don't know if you need the repair manual, but it would be easier. Just make sure you pay attention to how everything came apart. The hardest thing I have found when taking off lower units and putting them back on, is getting the shifter bar or what ever it's called put back in the right spot. It's just hard to get at. The ones I have done were right under the motor, between the motor and the pan going into the lower unit. A long needle nose should work though.

Besides that, make sure the pipes/hoses all slide back were they belong. Good luck.

My reason for the manual is that if you have not done it before you won't even know where the impeller exists. It is not a real obvious thing. And running back and forth to the web and asking questions(which most will answer) is real time consuming and speaking for myself when the boat is broke and the fish are biting I get a bit impatient grin.gif
