lowrance sonar setup?

seekingwalleye

Question

I just purchased the 334c and in the process of switching it out for the 332c and I am sure most people know why. Besides the fact, when I had the 334c on the lake, I couldn't seem to get the sonar part of it setup right. You see the demo on the screen showing arcs and stuff but i have trolled all over the lake, played with all the different settings and darned if i can't even read an arc. What do most people have set for their use as far as sensitivity, ping speed, etc... I can't seem to find fish on mine.. thanks for the help..

Do you see anything on the graph that's between the bottom and surface? Are you in an area that should have fish? You will only get nice arches under certain circumstances: 1)the fish must go through the center of the cone, 2) you or the fish must be moving and 3) you need to be in 20 feet of water or or deeper. The deeper the water the easier it is to get arches. It all has to do with the shape of the sonar signal and trigonometry, remember sine, cosine and hypotenuse? Take look at the Lowrance web site. It has a tutorial that explains underwater sonar and arches. I rarely see full arches, usually partial arches. When I'm moving slowly while rigging or jigging I see lines.
