Trolling Motor Problem

Juan Grande

Question

I just got a new boat in March and the trolling motor won't work for some reason. It worked fine two trips ago and the last time out it wouldn't run.

The batteries are fully charged and I know it's getting power because there's a button on it you can push that shows the batteries charge.

The motor is a 70LB Minnkota Autopilot. As far as I can see, all the wires are connected. I have a call in to the dealer, but I thought I'd check here too.

Any ideas?

Juan grande, sounds like your trolling motor is completely fried.....just kidding. I've had the same thing happen to me and it turned out being a loose wire in the head portion of the trolling motor, remove the bottom half of the head (mine had 4 screws) and make sure connections are good. How in blazes they can come off is beyond me but it does happen.

I talked to the dealer yesterday and they said there is a breaker switch that might have popped. The guy said the switch should be down with the batteries and bank charger. I couldn't find anything.

Doesn't sound like a breaker because the battery meter on your motor is reading full charge (so motor is getting 24+ volts).

Sounds like main control board is out.
