Treatment for boat- painting question

Scoot

Question

I know you're supposed ot treat aluminium with a special treatment before you paint it. However, I know the stuff is relatively pricey. I've hear you can use a couple different household products to treat the surface of the boat after you sand it down. Anyone else heard this?

What products can I use to treat my boat rather than ponying up the money to get the special treatment stuff?

Scoot,

I repainted my old lund 3 years ago. I ended up spraying it with something called etching primer before painting. I think I only spent about $100 for all of the interior and exterior paint and primer. The stuff worked well...the paint is still hanging on at least. I did't think 100 beans was too much for a nearly new looking boat. Granted, it didn't look like a new boat afterwards as this is the first paint job i did, but it worked for me and saved a lot of coin (as opposed to having it professionally done).

Good luck!
