laker lake around nipigon

Looking for a drive in lake for lakers around lake nipigon west side, hour to two hours north of Thunder Bay. Maybe shore fishing in spring.

Why wouldn't you fish Lake nipigon?

Never tried nipigon any advice would be great.

I don't know much about the west side other than there is a native village there--unaware of any access. However, Nipigon is probably the best drive-to laker water around. Huge fish are possible-into the forties. Speaking of huge, the lake itself is enormous. And seriously deep, like large expanses of 200-300 feet deep. There are accesses in South Bay and on the east side. Not much traffic on the lake but expect to see the OPP/MNR big boat. They used to make a big loop on the lake daily. When it blows on Nipigon, expect to stay on shore. Being basically round, the waves get enormous. Awesome pretty country.

Look at the previous posts under Nipigon. I haven't tried any other lakes in the area but think Nipigon can't be beat.
