Minnkota Powerdrive problem

Rebeleye

Question

Just replaced an old Minnkota trolling motor with a new 55 lb thrust Powerdrive. Mounted it to the front of the boat. Hooked all the electrical up. Went to run the prop and it barely moves and then stops. It will turn to change directions, but the prop basically acts as if it were stuck.

One thing I noticed is the prop is held on by a nut rather than a plastic wing nut. Could this be the problem?

I appreciate any help..

Prop is held on by a bolt...it is normal.

Try calling Minnkota or the dealer you bought it from...or call MotorClinic tomorrow morning and ask them. They should be able to give you some ideas.

Another thing you could check is make sure that you have a circuit breaker that is at least 50amp.

Turns out, the armature is damaged. Some of the copper wires broke off. This all happened during shipping!

Anyone got an idea how much a new Armature costs for one of these things?

Thanks

I had a brand new Minnkota 80# that had the same problem last year.

It turned out that the same had happened to quite a few Minnkotas that were being shipped thru UPS. They finally figured out that the motors were being dropped onto the motor end while being unloaded, which is what caused the armature damage! shocked.gif

If your motor is new you should get a new one FREE! No questions asked!

Take it back!

If your dealer does not cover it I would never go back to him again! mad.gif
