Need a little help...

Da Beak

Question

Need a little help folks. I'm installing a Humminbird 937 Combo on an 04 Crestliner 1850 Fishhawk. I'm a little lost as to where the best location would be for the GPS Puck. I initially thought about mounting it on the Gunwale, back by the Anchor Light, but it would interfere with the fit of the storage cover. There is an area just inside the Rear Right Gunwale where it would fit nicely, and be protected, but the top of the puck would be below the top of the rail. Would this affect the signal? Also, if I were to mount it on the dash, behind the GPS/Plotter, would the tinted windshield affect the signal? There's no metal, just tinted plastic.

Any help or opinions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Try to get it as high and in as open an area as possible. Top of the gunnel in back or on the trolling motor platform up front are ideal. If not possible, try to keep it out from behind things like electronics, windshields, and even bodies if possible. That being said, these modules are now tracking so many satellites at one time that a LITTLE bit of blockage is not really a problem. I have mounted several on the top rear area of the side rod lockers which are well below the gunnels and haven't had any issues yet. I would recommend that it is kept at least a few inches away from the boat sides themselves to allow as much sky view as possible without putting it out somewhere that it will get stepped on.
