Buying the generator

Looking for generator around 1500 to 2000w. Looking to spend around $600. My uses would be for fish house,working on deer stands and running furance in my house during a power
outage.Does anybody know anything about the
Coleman 1850w Sport? Does anyone have any information on this model or any other
generator in my specifications? Thanks.

Go try different generators out and listen to them and make sure you try the honda 2000eu and check the fuel comsumpsion on the different models.
The honda is going for $850 on the internet.
it will run up to 15 hours on 1 gallon of gas and won't be heard.

I've got the Coleman 1850 Sport. Runs decent, pretty quiet. I've only used it up while building deer stands so far.

I've worked at Menards and Northern... so I've seen a lot of generators come through... it all comes down to the engines. If all you need is a 1500 to 2000 watt generator, you can be a lil more open w/ brands. But as I said, it all comes down to the engines, Coleman uses mainly Tecumsah engines on smaller units like that, and all though Techumsah has improved by leaps and bounds in the last few years, Briggs & Straton are still better engines, and Honda of course will beat out any engine. Of course you pay for what you get, and Honda will run very high.
Just make sure you have enough power for what you're gonna use it for, over doin one can burn out those small engines, and screw up your gear thats plugged in. I'd recomend talkin to the guys at Northern or another reputible place that sells generators.

How big a generator does one need to run a portable saw or other equipment drawing 13 amps or so. Not all day like building a house but for smaller projects. Thanks for your comments.

Buy a small Honda, but buy it big enough for your needs. I have the EU1000i that I bought this year to run the TV lights, etc in the fish house. This generator is sooo quiet! Very nice for icefishing and very light weight too! I would never buy anything different, but be sure to buy it big enough for your needs. Northern will price match anyone's prices, so search the internet find the lowest price and then print it off and bring it into the store to recieve that price.

Check out the internet for information on wattage requirements for different devices, or just read the specifics on the device you wish to operate.

Hey Grabs... you got breaker for that TV? If your generator surges, it can blow the tube on it, I know a 1000 watt generator doesn't seem like much, but on a smaller set, it can do wonders.
As for power needs, just guess-timate the typical power needs, and add like 50% (just in case power, as in just in case the power goes out at home and your kids start hookin everything up in the house without you knowin). Also look at the generator before you get real set on anything, many of the listed powers on smaller generators is in fact the "surge power", actually running power can be 2/3 to 1/2 what is listed (1850W can sometimes be as low a running rate of 1000).

Bigclean, no I do not have a breaker and I actually do not need one with this generator. I have the EU1000i, the i stands for Honda Inverter technology. Which in short provides as clean if not cleaner AC sine wave than household power. Also my converter is in line before the TV, so if there ever was anything of concern the converter would take the brunt. Grabs right about honda's inverter technology. It's very clean power. Started to look into it sence hksbh reply about the eu2000i. Honda makes another new one called EB3000 compact/lightweight 68lbs @ 68dB about $1000 its not inclose like the EU's. The EU2000i is 59dB,46lbs @ about $850.
Dave thanks for the input about the 1850, Im not sure, but if I can swing it I'm going with the honda.
