Just wanted to see what a big score is? I dont know it was my first year turkey hunting and everyone was telling me I shot a big turkey for minnesota. 24 and half pounds 11 1/2 inch beard 1 1/4 inch spurs. They told me the score was 56 is that big or what is a big score and how do they come up with this number?

According to the NWTF's scoring system, your bird scores 72.5 - the formula is beard length X 2, each spur X 10 and then added together, and the weight all added. So you got 24.5 for weight, 25 for spurs(12.5 + 12.5), and 23(11.5 x 2) for beard. A dandy bird anywhere, congrats!

If it is a Eastern turkey, the biggest shot was 104.8125.It was shot by firearm in Ky. in 1999.

Talking about Mn.turkeys, your turkey would rank #15,1 position ahead of mine. That also is if it was shot by gun, typical and a Eastern .

If you would like more info on records,go to NWTF and then to record scores. You will then fill in the breed, state and so forth for any info on a turkey.A very, very nice bird.If you are a member, you can fill out a score sheet and they will put it in the record books. There might be a small fee.You may not have to be a member.

Anything over 60 is considered a trophy. 72.5 is a monster typical, best described by your #15 position. You'll need to do some registration and verification through NWTF to get it officially recognized.

Yes you measure both.If you go to the NWTF page they will explain it all for you.Or you can use the formula Cooter has listed in his post above, but add both beards. Also, your part inches need to be converted to decimals.
