When in full strut does the tom's Caruncles turn from a red to a white color and if so, why

In mating season season a Toms caruncles fill with blood and turn red.

As the birds gets more excited the head colors get more intense.

  Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
