mounting a transducer

Does anybody have any great ideas on how to mount a transducer to the hull to prevent it from being broke off if struck by something? I know there are some kits out there with a "kick-up" feature but can't seem to find that anywhere.

It depends on the boat you have. I've mounted several transducers in fiberglass boats. It's easy to epoxy them so they shoot through the hull. If you have an aluminum boat it can be a little tricky. I do see that vexilar is advertising a transducer that shoots through aluminum. Hummingbird high speed transducers have a plastic bracket that kicks up if you hit an object. If your running a lowrance/eagle high speed off the back you may have to back off the locknut that holds the transducer level so you don't break the plastic connected to the transducer when you hit an object.

The majority of transducers out there are designed to kick up when they hit something... unless you're doing a lot of river running or beaching your boat it shouldn't be a problem.

Most of the lowrance / eagle transducer has rubber washers you put on the outside of the bracket, and as long as you don't completely tighten the bolt. When you hit something the rubber washers compress, alowing the transducer to tip up.

My old man has a transducer that has a suction cup to it, it is great you dont have to have it below the boat so you dont have to worry about hitting it and it comes off nice and easy, i am looking to see if i can get one for my vexilar to put on my boat.

This may or may not help. I have in the past tried using the transducer through the hull of the boat. It has worked on the models I used...I am very cheap when it comes to spending money on this stuff, I just want to know where the bottom is. back to the topic...I'd hold it in place and have it shoot through the bottom of the boat while sitting still on the lake, this would work while moving as long as you had someone else to steer. figure out if it does get a good reading, if it does, make a mental note or mark it and get some epoxy or silicone. It will not hurt anything to try it. It would be safe from all that is outside the boat, depending on what kind of boat you have, maybe, it will be safe on the inside. Just a thought. I have my Vex shooting through the hull, and it works great!
