Trailblazin
On my St Croix rod, the guide isnot broke, but the center plastic part came loose. I can put it back on, but it will come loose after 20-30 casts. Should I be concerned? How can I make sure this center piece will stay in place? Super Glue? 0 Scoot
Sounds like your insert came out- a common problem. You can glue the insert back in, but it's not a good fix and it'll come out again. I'd strongly recommend replacing the guide.------------------ScootRodsbyEngel: custom made fishing rods
0 Trailblazin
I have never replacced a guide. Is there a site that will show me how to do this? Do I send it back in? Will Gander Mountian do this? Is there a specific guide size I need?First time a rod of mine has ever had any problems in 15 yrs of fishing. 0 IrishZit
These raises a question I have had.I make rod and the glue that I use for the tip top can be heated. So a rod that I make, I could heat the tip top and replace a new tip top.I wonder if the factory uses epoxy or glue similar to what I use.You may want to heat it up and see what happens. If you break off the end and put on a new tip top, there will be a very subtle performance difference.Sully
0 NotoriousBLM
Trail,How old is the rod, and is it a Legend Elite, Avid, Premier, or Proglass? St Croix has a known reputation for taking care of customers. If the rod is relatively new and you bought it from a reputable retailer, they may exchange the rod so you don't have to bother with shipping the rod to Park Falls and waiting for a replacement or fix. When I first read your post I thought you had a loose tip top, if that was the case it would be an easy fix. It sounds like the insert to one of the guides is loose though, correct? If it's the tip top and you are close to Becker I could fix it for you in about 20 seconds.------------------"Nothing says business in the front and party in back like a good mullet." 0 Mark Christianson
Sorry for the diversion of topic, but I just noticed the autosignature for Notorius.I almost spit my pop on my computer screen......I don't think you are going to get any rod exchange from the place you bought it. I have had 2 Loomis' fail me in the last month, one of which was 2 weeks old, and they said its a Manufacturers Warranty, and the dealer can do nothing about it.If St Croix handles it differently, then I would be happy to switch brands with the quality I am currently experiencing.Lots of places fix rod tips. Not very many places fix guides. You want to be sure to call around to find out who does what.Trails End Bass Pro in Spring Lake Park has quite a fix-it shop. 0 Big Ick
Blazin - I build fishing rods and could fix your guide. I don't know where you're located, but if it's not near me, you could find another custom rod builder to do the work.

0 IrishZit
There is a store in Duluth that will take broken St. Croix rods in and let you grab a new one off the shelf and walk out the door in a matter of minutes. I don't know if this unique to this store or common St. Croix practice.Sully
0 Big Ick
I work in Shakopee. If you want, I can pick up the rod and fix it for you...for a small fee or a trade of some sort. It wouldn't amount to much, 'cause it's only gonna take an hour or so for the labor. You'd have to give me a couple of days to do it...the epoxy on the wrap needs time to cure.
