Lowrance H2Oc external antenna yes/no?

FishinLogician

Question

I have a problem getting a good GPS signal with my unit when I'm boating/fishing on the Minnesota river. I'd like to use the GPS as one additional navigation aide (not the only one) when it's foggy late at night. My experience has been dropped signals and highly suspect position indications most times on the river. All other times it works great so I know it's not the unit itself. I see LEI offers an active external antenna and wanted to know if anyone has experience with it and do you think it would help?

There's a menu option for how fast the unit determines and draws its postion. Lower setting is better battery life and faster setting is more accurate positioning. Take a look at that, make sure you have it cranked up. Otherwise, just make sure your unit has a clear view of the sky, isn't be shielded by anything including you. Good luck.

PerchJerker,

Thanks for the suggestions. I use the power adapter when on the boat so I'm not concerned about battery life and I'm maxed on update speed. I believe the problem is the height of the shoreline and trees. I'm mainly looking for opinion on the active (not passive) external antenna and if it could help draw in a better signal down on the river. Has anyone ever used this antenna?
