Good luck eagle...They are slowly doing away with the rear drag and quck cast just to many people having problems with them so you need to make your decision this year possibly because you might not see any next year....so you might want to buy 2...shimano is one ofthe last reels that offer these kind of reels...Goodluck

Meh. Rear drag is just plain silly.

Drag is set and balanced to the action of the rod, and the weight of the line. It does not matter if the fish is big or little. Drag was not meant to be fiddled with in mid-catch.

As far as Shimano, sounds like you got a lemon, if you've got a problem with it.
They are the real deal.

What model of Shimano reel did you have trouble with?There are several models w/rear drag and the quickfire system that you are talking about.Price's from 19.99-59.99.FX to Symetre.I also request the quickfire and rear drag,and refuse to own any other spinning reel other than a Shimano.

Thanks for the repleys. I have the spirex 1000rb and the bail is hard to open.
