ASMOLEY
I'm in the market for new turkey vest. I've seen the ones with the built in back rest and love them but haven't been able to locate any this spring. I just want a vest that will have the storage i need for my calls and all my other hunting toys that find their way into my pockets, and a built in seat with backrest. Any opnions/suggestions? MJCatfish
I purchased the Primos Gobbler Vest and am quite excited to try it. It has lots of great options, especially pockets. It seems like it's well-engineered. Retail, I think is about 80 clams. I'll try to report back on it's use after next week's hunt!MJ
Hotspotter
My only recommendation on a vest is to stay away from the kind with the thin straps that go over your shoulder. In the past I had problems with those when sneaking around. The strap can ride high off your shoulder, then catch in brush. The more traditional vests tend to catch less from my experiences. Oh, and one more thing, just because you have all those pockets, don't necessarily feel obliged to use them all! It took a few years of getting jabbed in the ribs with every peice of gear I had, on every belly-crawl-sneak-end-around I ever did. I learned this lesson several times from the old-guy that taught me how to turkey hunt. He wears camo overalls and brings his double-barrel 10. In his pockets are a few nasty looking mouth calls and maybe he'll sling the 10 and hand-carry a lynch's fool-proof box call. That guy has been the end of literally hundreds of turkeys in his life, while guiding, hunting, and calling. Now, if we're hunting, he makes me carry whatever trinkets/knicknacks he finds in my vest pockets. After carrying two box-turtle shells and a dog skull the last time in Kansas, I seriously thought about not wearing a vest altogether! They have their use though, and I wouldn't hunt without one. One more thing (this is it), cover up the velcro and just use clips or some other method to secure the seat. It's waayyyyyy too loud if you're setting up tight on a roosted bird. Kind of reminds me of my tackle boxes, except if there is extra space, it was an accident and it must be filled immediately with another lure! Those are all good points, Joel. Thanks for sharing. One day and one week away! I can't wait. MJ

WallyGator12000
Last year I got the Bass Pro shops "Redhead Highback turkey vest lounger" and I really liked it. The seat didn't get in my way when I was moving through the woods, but man was it nice to sit in, even when I found a nice tree to lean against too. The only thing to be careful about this style is quite often that tree is a shield between you and some other boozo's load of #4's, so be careful about just setting up without something to lean against. And as always be careful and leave those turkey colors (red, white, blue) at home.
