It never fails!!! Someone has to come out of the woodwork and blow a post out of proportion. "look down on my clients" Where did I say that?? You're blowing it out of proportion. I also stated that it isn't even the amount of the tip, just what the tip in it's self says. So you blew that out of proportion also.

Try looking at the glass as half-full once. Life is better that way!!!

Mr. Haley,

Please accept my apology as I did not aim my comments directly at you, although you did comment about whether your customers "had a clue". I was attempting to address the topic and not you personally, although apparently not very well.

Technically, every person that works for themselves or others is in the service industry. Self employed persons provide a service to their customers. Employees provide a service to their employers?

How often do you tip your employees, if you have employees, or do you just pay them their salary as agreed? That's a rhetorical question, no need to answer.

So why do some service providers deserve a tip by nature of the service they provide while the rest of us don't?

Finally, in my defense:

As far as a customer showing their appreciation what would you prefer, an extra $20 or that he sent you 20 new customers?

Look out over the edge of that glass and see beyond the rim!

Bob

I guide everyday in the summer. And every chance I get to go somewhere else to fish I usually get a guide. I have had both good and bad guides and fished a lot of places from Florida to Hawaii. I am a good tipper if I feel the captain did his job professionally and honestly. I dont want the mate or the captain telling me how great a job they did yesterday or last week. I am smart enough to know that its still fishing and it has ups and downs. Just show me you know what your doing when I ask a question and that you did actualy try something besides the same technique that worked yesterday if its not working today. I expect a question to be answered honestly, clean boat, and all the fees that I could incurred expalined prior to getting on the boat not after. (live bait, sales tax, fuel surcharge, fish cleaning, etc...)
