cray
I have a 89 40hp mercury tiller with a really stiff throttle. At times I need both hands to twist the throttle down to a slow idle. What can I do to loosen it up. Types of lubricants, adjustments? I really don't know where to start. Thanks.
0 musky hunter
Not knowing your skills around motors but assuming you are doing it yourself, it boils down to thoroughly understanding how the linkages work. All it takes is either a little wear, a bent linkage arm, lack of proper lubrication, or something like that to bind up the works. If you are inclined, have some basic tools, can get your hands on a repair manual, chances are you can do this. It might be as simple as straightening out a bent linkage arm and reassembling, or you might need a replacement part. The other option is just to take it into a good shop and let them deal with it for you. In either case, this should be fixed, because if it's binding, something is going to break down, likely leaving you stranded well away from a boat landing.
