I would not rattle can it, but would brush paint it. Home Depot sells Everymore paint which can be used over metal surfaces. I am sure there are lot of paint that will cover metal. Have you thought of covering the area in no slip material?

I am in the process of repainting the interior of my '82 Lund Pro-angler. The factory paint was peeling of in pretty good size pieces. I went to the local CarQuest store and they sold me some Aircraft paint remover. This stuff worked great. Just brush it on, and wait a few minutes, old paint just bubbles and can be scraped away. Took me about 6 hours to strip it all. I have a carpeted floor, so I only did the side walls, transom area, and bow cover.

I felt I needed to strip the old paint off, because it did not make much sense to paint new over peeling paint(new would just peel again). Now all I have to do is use an aluminum cleaner and then repaint. I am going to use a tintable bedliner. This can be tinted any color and will match very close to my new seats. It will roll on and depending on the nap of the roller, I will get a durable not slip finish on the inside of my boat that will take a beating from feet resting on the walls and so forth.

Good luck on your project!!!
