Should Gordon be penalized ?

Recommended Posts

Hey guy's we just got back and running here at work.

I think that there should be some kind of fine or docking of points. The reason that I think this is you just don't touch other people. I've never been in a race car so for the part of moving him or bumping him, I'll leave that up to the drivers here. I think that the 24 is the so called Golden Boy of NASCAR. I also think that the sport is luck to have a guy like him. Any fine that they give him will not hurt him in the checkbook. I really don't know if docking him the points is a good idea either. After all he had a third place finish going and then had it taken away from him.

Just my thoughts.

My prediction was right. I didn't figure it would be much but it almost had to be done. I doubted points would be a factor in this case, but when it comes down to it that's really the only thing that matters most to these people and a cash fine won't mean squat in the end.

Funny how shoving another person gets a measely cash fine while swearing means a points deduction. I suppose that swear word "hurt so many more people". gimmie a break...

If you consider the possible ramifications to NASCAR and the Networks from the FCC for broadcasting profanity and compare that to shoving someone you should pretty easily be able to see why NASCAR differentiates between the two...

The problem for Gordon is that he is the best driver in Nascar and has been for the last 6-8 years unfortunately for him he doesn't have a mustache, his car isn't black and his car number isn't 3.

Hey ya ever heard of Tony Stewart??? Mark Martin says Tony is the best too.

No, they are not setting a good example for sportsmanship. What they are doing, however, is making money. Selling tickets, getting sponsors, endorsements.

I'm sad to see what Nascar has turned into. It really isn't about quality racing anymore. They couldn't give a hoot about sportsmanship. No amount of smarmy commercials will convince me they give a rip about anything but $$$$. A little pit road fist-o-cuffs generates soap opera which translates into $$$ for Nascar.

So, a little tiny fine for Jeff and it's off to selling more commercial time!!!!!!!!

Agreed Lawdog, but does Nascar want small children and young kids to see the pushing and shoving of competiors?I dont believe they are setting a good example for sportsmanship,do you?

Give me a break, you're really stretching it. A shove in the chest ins't bad at all. Most sports like football, hockey, and even basketball are much more physical on a daily basis.

And by the way, if my kids felt they were wronged like #24 was by the #17 I would hope they stick up for themselves.(No matter how small they are blush.gif)

The worst thing to me is stuff like the #1 did, taking your beat-up car out on the track for revenge. I think deliberately smashing your car into someone else's is potentially a lot more harmful than a shove in the chest.

Maybe he should have just given him a hug.. grin.gif

All things considered the penalty fit the crime.....Can you imagine if it was Tony Stewart who was taken out and the BOZO who did it was right there when Tony exited his vehicle..... shocked.gif

Let me ask this question...

Was his fine based on past rules and past precedence? If so, then the fine fit the bill.

However, maybe their rules on fines are outdated with today's $$ amounts, and they need to update those rules/amounts?
