WI ATV Non-Resident Trail Pass

My wheeler is registered in MN. Do I need to purchase a Non-Resident Wi trail pass to "legally" haul wood, drag a buck, etc. (not trail riding) on my mothers land in Northern Wi? I've visited with a couple bait shops up there that say the law is a bit fuzzy. If the pass is required, I'd chalk that right up there with the MN's portable ice shack tag requirement.....money...money....money

Iwas told by local inforcement last year that i did not need it on private land only needed it on public trails
