Sunburn, snowmobiles and big crappies on LOW!

Recommended Posts

The last ice trip of the year was the best, and the warmest! Got pretty sunburn on Saturday fishing Miles Bay when it hit 46 degrees, not including the sun. Never put my coat on all day! Paying the price with a red face today. blush.gif

We had a great day with crappies, walleyes, sauger and perch all biting in about 34 feet of water, a few feet off the bottom. Three of us caught a dozen crappies over 12 inches -- good solid pounders -- and many more smaller ones. We also landed more than 20 walleyes, many 16 inches plus, out of the same holes! We never knew from one bite to the next what was on the line! Great fun! Ran out of minnows.

Snow conditions for thew machines was great after it softened up by mid-morning but the snow is fading very fast... If anyone has an ice trip planned I'd go very soon. This weekend will definitely be the last with temps in the 40's and sun and rain forecast. The snow was fading into mush and is going fast, it's already off the land routes exposed to any sun.

P.S. The boats are already thick on the Rainy River. The ice was out to Pinewood Friday morning and was out nearly to Rainy River by Sunday night....

Spring has sprung...

Wild Thing it sounds like you had a good weekend. We are heading up there on Friday. This is the first good crappie report I have seen this winter. Were there a lot of people out? We have been going up there for a long time but this is the latest. If you have time can you email me? I have some questions for you. [email protected] Thanks

Well didnt fish for crappies but we did head up to Whitefish Bay for lakers this past monday( mar.27). 8 fish caught from 2 lbs to 9-10 lbs Couldnt ask for a nicer day, long sleeve shirt and there isnt much for snow out there. There is enough to keep everything cool on the sleds though and its so flat out there you can really cruise if you wanted to. From Morson to the spot where we fished in Whitefish bay we never seen another soul. We seen about 8 people goes by once we got fishing, 2 on sleds and the rest were on wheelers. I can see where a wheeler would be nice if the temp got colder cuz with the little amount of snow/slush out there a guy would melt some hifax in a hurry. Even the ride back to Morson it was very noticeable how much more snow had melted. We fished for walleyes closer to Morson later on in the afternoon til dark and did good with a 21 incher being the biggest plus we did throw alot of small fish back. I swung by hay Island to see if anyone was fishing and there wasnt anyone out there but that didnt surprise me being it was monday. But from what i hear some folks did great on crappies up in Miles. Not sure when I'll get up there again but keep those reports coming in! Good luck and be safe out there. Brian
