Scope for TC Encore .270 cal.

I recently bought a 270 caliber barrel that I can use with my TC encore. In the future, I am hoping to do some mule deer and antelope hunting in Montana and the Dakotas. I am looking for suggestions regarding a decent scope for that situation that isnt going to break the bank. I would like to keep it under $250. Typically, all my hunting is in the heavily wooded areas of Northern MN, and all my shots are pretty much under 50 yards so I don't have a scope on any of my rifles, and dont have much experience here. I am wondering what sort of field of view and power range you guys would recommend.

Ill just say what i like. I use Scheels Brand Scopes and I love them, i would choose them over the Leopold any day. If i was you i would look for a either a 3.5x10x42 or a 4x12x44. They will both work and i know scheels has both of them. This is the brand i like.

Oh and for price the 3.5x10x42 is 199.99 and the 4x12x44 is under 250 but i am not for sure on the price. Hope this helps.

Check out the Burris Fullfield II in 3-9. I put one on my '06 last year, and am quite pleased with it. I'm partial to Burris, and have had good luck with them over the years. Decent optics that don't break the bank. Burris has been offering all sorts of deals on the Fullfields, including throwing in a spotting scope or binoculars with purchase.

3-9 is really the "standard" variable scope, and can cover a variety of situations from woods to prairies, assuming you have practiced a bit.

I've heard lots of guys that like those Burris scopes, but I have no personal knowledge or experience with them. I've gotten very partial to Nikon glass the last few years, both in scopes and binos. I think their value is exceptional for the price. The Monarch's are very very nice. I'd go 3x9x40 probably like someone else said. I don't think you'll really ever need anything more than 9 power for any big game, I'd probably say 2-7 if it was MN/WI type hunting, but probably not for out West there I'd stay with 3x9.

You should also think about quick disconnect rings if you are going to get other barrels. It makes moving the scope easy and in theory its easier to re-zero then too. Some of the higher end scopes have some real nice capabilities for sighting in then resetting the screws to "zero" thus allowing you to sight in on another caliber/barrel but easily return to zero'ed for your main gun. Don't think you'll get into that for less than $250 though. I got a buddy who bought a Zeiss conquest for his Encore and it has that so he'll use it on two barrels. Went with Talley QDC rings/bases and put a base on each barrel. Now that's a sweet set up!

Thanks for the feedback guys. After a little more research I went with th Burris 3x9x40. Looks like a pretty decent scope for the money, and it came with a VERY nice pair of binoculars free! Overall, very satisfied with both the scope and binoc's.
