FL-18 question

Perchpapa

Question

My Vexilar FL-18 seems to have a power surge. For example when I have my jig down, it never stays on the same color, it dies out and them comes in strong, dies out, comes in again. It is almost like my transducer is moving but I don't think it is. Anyone have this problem?

I haven't had that before, but I've had plenty of battery issues. First thing would be to check the volts of the battery. Or just get a new one. If it still happens I'd call vex or bring it in. They'll run some tests on it right there in front of you.

Note: if you have a minnow on the minnow could swim outside of the cone. Shiners do that all the time for me especially in less than 25ft of water.

That's my .02

Your lure could be spinning as well. If you have a horizontal style lure and your line has any twist in it, that might be your problem. As the lure spins it may pick up stronger and weaker singnals at different points.

It also could be your minnow. As it swims, it may be at such an angle towards the transducer that the single goes from strong to weak (depending on how the minnow is positioned at that point in time).

If you cut the lure off your line and just put a round split shot down there and still have the problem, I'd get it checked out.

Also make sure there is no current when testing this.

Is there a chance fish are coming in and out of the cone? Maybe they are coming in and poking at it, then backing off..
