My steering cable is bad, (as a few already know) to refresh your memory, its rack & pinion , and for a 17 ft. bayliner I/O, OMC Cobra. Question is, it has a 14ft. cable right now, and I can get a brand new one for $90 (the whole system) from a wrecked boat. Problem is, its a 15 footer. I fealt around were my cable is running right now, and it makes a quick turn , in the back corner on the way to where it hooks up to the outdrive, so there is abit extra room between it, and the rear corner. What I'm getting at is, I know these cables are awefully stiff, but do you think its possible to get that extra foot squeezed in there? Probably hard to determine without looking at it, but wondering if you know if its been done before, or if I absolutely HAVE to put a 14 footer in.
