I was out on monday. Also talked to a couple people who were out over the weekend. Lots of fish, but nothing of size. Still lots of fun. I was fishing nymphs. Couple guys were having luck on small dries.

There are lots of small fish in the Kinnie, but I have caught numerous browns over 20 in out of there. I seem to do better on large fish on the rush but I do better on the kinnie for numbers. Both rivers are a lot of fun to fish.

I will be headed out to the rush this weekend. I will be camping at fishermans rest in El Paso. I'll be the guy in the fancy tent.

I talked to a buddie of mine who was out there last weekend he said the river was low and clear, with some pretty good hatches. Can anyone tell me what the conditions are like more recently?

I am planning an nymphing and tossing wolly buggers. I am a somewhat novice trout fisher and have difficulty matching hatches. Does anyone have any dry fly suggestions?

Thanks!

On the surface or subsurface try a small midge or a small black ant, which I think trout think are midges. Last weekend, during a heavy snow, I still found recently hatched midges on the bank walking on the snow. Air temp was in the high 20's!

Nymphs: PT's, hairs ear, prince, scuds, and small stonefly.

Water pretty low, fish piled up in bends and deep pools. I know the stretch I fish pretty good and ended up hooking 16, all browns. Biggest around 14 in, had one on that was bigger though. Was nice to see the sage take a bending.

I know the WI catch and release openned, but is the Kinnie an exception? When can you take fish out of there? Same as the rest of the state?

Ooops, I was looking at last years regulations, sorry. It should be: Early C&R ends April 30th, 2006. The regular inland trout season runs from May 6th, 2006 to September 30th, 2006.

Made it down to Kinnie today. It was wonderful to be casting again! Landed one brown and another got off, seemed to be a better fish, but then arn't they always? Did see a few fish rising..couldn't really see what they were eating. Started with a parachute ant...to no avail, then a orange scud, to no avail, then bead head pheasant tail nymph. One other angler was there who was kind enough to show me the proper way to roll cast, thank you! I'm fairly new to fly fishing and I'd been doing it wrong. I have a feeling the WI trout waters will be seeing more of me this year.

Good to hear you made it out to enjoy such a nice day! As for myself, i've been sitting behind a vice today tying up an assortment of flies, organizing my down insulated vest, and putting new leaders on my rods. I've got such an open water itch going on that I don't see myself ice fishing again this year.

It was nice to work out the kinks in the casting arm. I may need to learn how to tie flies as well, neither the Gander or Fleet farm that I stopped at on the way had any midge flies. I think thats what they were surfacing on. Although I did have a small slender black bug land on my hat. It looked like a really small stone fly but I dont think it was...I should have taken a picture.

There was a modest stonefly hatch on Saturday, the ones I came across were like this.

Of course there was a nice midge hatch as well. My friend had some nice luck on a #14 adams out of one riffle. I pulled up one brown on a pink scud and one on a Royal Wulff. It was partly cloudy on Saturday and 55+, not a bad way to spend a Saturday with old friends.

12+ inches? I bet this will be another one of those storms that gets all hyped and we end up with maybe 2" which may or may not muddy the water. I'd like to see 12 inches, as we really need it. The Kinni and the Rush are as low as I've seen them in quite some time.

I was out there sunday before the rain/sleet/snow. Couple little browns on hares ears. My friend saw a couple guys pull a few out on princes. Not much of a hatch though.

Was anyone else out there today?

Mr. Magneto, How'd the snow pan out for you? Hype or snow?

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
