My Ryan's Yoke Broke

RJ

Question

One of the welds gave out on the Yoke that hauls my power auger. I suspect I was going too fast when I came upon a rough spot. The end that supported the auger end survived, but the weight of the motor was too much for it's partner. I can make a stronger rack, using a 2 X 4 and some 3/4 inch plywood. Anyone else broken one?

I haven't broke mine, but I did bend 'em up during a reef-crossing mishap on Mille Lacs earlier this winter. I had been unloading all of my gear and pulling the sleds across with a long rope before doing a high-speed atv crossing, but I got lazy and left the auger on the yokes. The front of the atv dropped about a foot through a layer of ice and slush then hit the ice on the other side. I almost went over the handle bars, but when my leg hit the throttle the atv shot forward nearly dumping me off the back (quite a little show for my fishing buddy). When I got stopped on the other side I noticed that the yokes were bent forward at about a 45 degree angle. I bent them back, but I think they have been weakened significantly.

Mine broke too! I took the set back to Gander Mountain in Forest Lake where I bought them and got my money back.

I bought a mounting system from Dennis Kirk and am very happy. I won't promote Ryan's yoke racks for ice augers.

Same deal happend to me but I guess I was booking across LOW at 40 on my 4 wheeler. Took mine back the IPI holders Cableas sell allowed me to do that so I guess I was spoiled so I went back to that system.

Yup, my buddy had one of his Yoke's break yesterday. Where the other bent pretty badly. This was after going through a major slush hole. I guess it is not an uncommon thing to happen.
